I went to see a movie last night with my gal. Boy have they gotten expensive. We went to see Taken 2 with Liam Neeson. I really liked the first one and the second did not disappoint me either. I certainly enjoyed the action, as well as the story line. My girl, liked it but had really wanted to see something mushy. Blech! I was just not in the mood for a sappy romance. I did take her to dinner before hand, so she really wasn’t that upset over the movie.

We had a good time and then went home, as we both had to work today. Staying out late was not an option. I like that my girl is easy to get along with. A lot of women, would have pitched a fit. Oh well, time for me to get out of here. I have a lot to do still.

We decided to have a great big bonfire to burn the leaves and such from the yard. My room mate also brought home some old wooden pallets to burn as well. We invited some of the guys over to join us and we will sit around and drink some beer, and shoot the bull. I guess it is like some male bonding ritual or something, at least that is what the girls tell us. They have declined the invitation and said we should just have fun with the guys. Not surprising since neither of them like each other very well. Bully for them though. We will have fun without them.

All guys have some latent ability to Bar B Q, but sometimes it takes work to learn some of the more refined dishes. Like most men, I love to eat. I will eat most anything that is put in front of me. I have never really found anything that I totally hate, not even liver. I do get tired of cooking the same stuff over and over though, so I am going to teach myself to make some new recipes. I asked my mother where I can find some good ones and she told my to check out the Food Network online. Duh! I obviously have a computer, why didn’t I think to Google recipes? No matter, I got this now!

She also told me that there are some really good recipe packets at the store next to the packets for making gravy and such. I checked those out when I went shopping and found a couple that look really good. I also found out how to make certain sauces and gravy’s from scratch. I am going to try one of those tonight. It is a simple white sauce and then you add Parmesan cheese, and it becomes and Alfredo sauce. I will make some linguine and saute some shrimp to drop in it and see how that comes out. Add some garlic bread on the side and a salad, and I do believe I will have a hit. Just pray that my sauce comes out okay for me will ya?

I kept hoping that the wind would start blowing like crazy and blow all of these darn leaves out of my yard. The only problem with that is it could blow my neighbors leaves into my yard. The good thing is my yard isn’t that big. Just a good rake, muscle and a few hours and I can be done if the leaves would stop falling.

Have you seen those lawn vac systems that hook up to your riding mower? Man those things are nice. One thing is for sure, if I had a very large yard, I would have one of those things. They make getting up leaves a breeze. My parents had one since they had a huge yard for all of us kids to run and play in. Dad could get up all of the leaves in just a few hours. Man would he be dirty afterwards but it was a lot better than raking for days that’s for sure!

I don’t know about you but I am loving this cooler weather. Fall is on it’s way and it’s not hurting my feelings at all. I can handle cold better than I can handle heat. I have been checking out those portable fire pit things for the deck. You would think that since I have been looking at them, I would remember what they call them besides ‘fire pit things’.

Anyway, there’s no fireplace in the house so a nice fire on the deck would be great for just relaxing after a hard days work or even a nice quiet get together with some friends. That is if they will all behave and try to get along! Smores anyone?

Baking soda has been around ever since I can remember and I have to be honest. I never really knew what it was for other than to go into Grandma’s secret recipes. It turns out that I am wrong again and I recently found out that it has many uses due to its beneficial properties. It’s cheap, contains no toxic chemicals, and is very versatile.

It can be used on many areas of the body. It can freshen your breath as well as clean your skin. It can relieve heartburn and treat insect bites. It effectively cleans hundreds of different items and deodorizes everything from cat boxes to refrigerators. Who knew?

Today marks the anniversary of a day that will live in the memory and heart of America forever. The attacks on September 11 have been etched into the minds of our people and will never be forgotten. The sudden and tragic deaths of over 3,000 people helped forged our nation together and has made us stronger in the face of terrorism. It is because of this event that I joined the Marine Corps.

The president spoke today and reminded the American people that we are not at war with Islam; we are at war with those who have turned that religion into something it was never meant to be. I know that many people around the world joined together for a moment of silence in remembrance of those who gave their lives for their country.

Since my girlfriend found out she was allergic to wheat, I did a little checking into food. Since men are different from women, I found a small list that may help you decide which foods are for you. We’ll start with the men. Oysters are very good for men. They contain zinc which is good for the reproductive system. Tomatoes are also a wise choice of food for men. It helps lower the risk of prostate cancer.

As for women, it seems that Papaya is a good place to start. It has a lot of vitamin c that helps protect against gallbladder disease. If breast cancer is a worry, Flaxseed may be the answer. Tofu is high in soy protein that can strengthen the bones. Others foods are Collard Greens, Peanut Butter and watermelon.

I might have found what was good for her but still need to learn more about this crazy wheat allergy thing. I did notice that wheat wasn’t listed in either list, did you? Oh and it seems she’s also allergic to oysters. Good thing they weren’t on the list of good things for her huh??

Every once in awhile you may hear a word or a phrase and wonder how it came to be. I have heard the expression ‘three sheets to the wind’ my entire life and I finally heard an explanation of its origins. It seems to have been invented on the high seas. Leave it to a sailor huh?

This particular expression of being drunk comes from the fact that the word “sheet” is the term for a rope that controls a square sail on a ship. The sails are uncontrollable if the sheets are loose and the ship will drift until the situation is corrected. Thus came the phrase three sheets to the wind! But you know what, I still don’t see how that relates to getting drunk!

My Mom called last night and we got to talking about this and that. I didn’t realize it at the time, but we spent two hours on the phone. I guess we had a lot of catching up to do. It’s funny how time can get away from you when you are doing something interesting. I know it must sound funny that talking with my Mom is interesting, but I guess it was.

I remember my first girlfriend and how we used to talk deep into the night. I don’t really remember anything that we specifically talked about, but it must have important. I don’t know about you but I do prefer to talk over the phone instead of text messages or one of those social network sites. Feels more personal to me.
