Today marks the anniversary of a day that will live in the memory and heart of America forever.  The attacks on September 11 have been etched into the minds of our people and will never be forgotten.  The sudden and tragic deaths of over 3,000 people helped forged our nation together and has made us stronger in the face of terrorism.  It is because of this event that I joined the Marine Corps.

The president spoke today and reminded the American people that we are not at war with Islam; we are at war with those who have turned that religion into something it was never meant to be.  I know that many people around the world joined together for a moment of silence in remembrance of those who gave their lives for their country.

The country of Japan found itself with a great big problem after the Tsunami devastated the country last year. The giant wave of water knocked out several nuclear plants and created a danger to the public. The problem is that the government was not so forthcoming with the problem.

Three reactors melted down and the threat to the general public was not immediately made known to the public. The reactors were brought under control but not before much radiation was released. I wish the governments of our time would be much more sensitive to the public.

The wonderful city of Paris, France is trying something new. They are introducing a program that will put about 250 electric cars on the road by next summer. They are hoping to reduce pollution and noise by using the electrically operated cars which are virtually silent.

In this experiment, people will sign up to use the cars and pay an annual fee for doing so. The city has installed a number of stations where the cars can be charged. They hope to expand the program and draw attention to the problem of air pollution.

The congress is trying to push through a jobs bill that will help finance new construction projects. The bill marks $60 billion dollars to help rebuild the infrastructure. I think this is a good bill even though the republicans are trying to block it. I hope it goes through.

Republicans say the small tax increase on the wealthy will not be good the economy. I think that the increase is so small that it will make little difference to those who are so fortunate.

Our country is still on the rebound of the many financial problems we have had in the past. While I think we are doing better, we still have a long way to go. That’s why it’s unsettling to hear that some of our countries biggest retailers are not playing fair with the American public.

Home Depot stores are being blamed for selling articles that violate the Buy American act. The law was enacted to promote the sales of American made products. Home Depot agreed to pay $6.25 million dollars for their transgressions and promise to do better in the future. I hope they do!!
